Colonoscopy FAQ

With approximately 5 Singaporeans diagnosed with colon cancer everyday, it is important to be provided with available information and treatment options, especially if you fall under high risks groups.

Regular and early colonoscopy screening is key to the detection and prevention of colon cancer.

How does colonoscopy work?

+
Colonoscopy involves inserting a thin, flexible tube attached with camera and lighting into the colon. This tube, known as an endoscope, is inserted via the anus and through the rectum, until it reaches the colon. Our colorectal surgeon Dr Ng will check for any polyps on the inner walls of the colon via the camera of the endoscope. If polyps are spotted, they will be removed immediately on the spot. This effectively prevents any growths from potentially developing into cancerous cells.
