Before the colonoscopy procedure, you will be required to cleanse your body of stools and other waste materials. Laxatives will be provided to you prior to the procedure and an increased frequency of trips to the toilet is to be expected. You will also need to fast 6 hours before colonoscopy.

Our colonoscopy screening is a minimally invasive procedure conducted by Dr Ng.

During the procedure, an endoscope – which is a long, flexible tube attached with camera and lights – will be inserted via the anus through the rectum and colon. Dr Ng will check for the existence of polyps in the colon and remove any, if found.

Our colonoscopy is done under full sedation and is therefore painless. The entire procedure will take about 30 to 60 minutes and any findings and results from the colonoscopy will be shared with you on the same day.

Dr Ng may order biopsy tests to determine if the polyps are cancerous to better diagnose your condition. Biopsy results will be made available at a later date.

After the screening, you will be discharged on the same day with minimal complications and zero downtime. Some slight bloatedness in the abdomen area may be experienced.

Risks of bleeding and perforations in the colon are very low, especially under the hands of a trained doctor. However, if you experience pain or discomfort in the 5 to 7 days following the colonoscopy, please seek immediate medical attention with us.

Dr Ng may schedule for a follow-up review in certain cases. These include conditions where cancerous cells are detected, the polyps are unusually large, or if numerous polyps are detected.

In Singapore, you can use your own or your immediate family member’s Medisave to pay for colonoscopy. Many health insurances also do cover the full cost of colonoscopy.
